Dear Cassie … My name is Jack and I love tennis balls.  I particularly like to eat the fur off them.  I don’t know why I do it, I just can’t help myself.  Unfortunately, my Mum has now stopped letting me play with them and I am not very happy about this.

Jack Russell
Jack Russell – tennis balls are a no no

Dear Jack … I understand how frustrating this is for you, because I know what fun it is to rip the fuzz off,  but your Mum is right.   If you eat the fur, it can get stuck in your stomach, which sometimes means an operation.  So we don’t want that do we?  Also the glue that is used to stick on the furry stuff can break down the enamel on our teeth.  So two good reasons not to play with and eat the fur of tennis balls.   The best toys for us to play with are

  • Very hard rubber toys.  They are available in a variety of shapes and sizes and they need to be big enough so we can’t swallow them
  • Rope toys with knotted ends

I hope this helps?
