Fort McMurray Fire: the cost to animal life

Scroll down to content

In the UK, we have been listening to the terrible news of the raging fire that recently engulfed Fort McMurray in Canada.

“It looks a lot like climate change” reported CNN “And that should scare you”.  It does.

The fire has burnt an area of approximately 325 square miles – roughly the size of the city of Chicago. An estimated 100,000 people were evacuated and around 20% of the city has been destroyed.

It must have been terrifying for the people and all animals, especially the wildlife.  As the costs to rebuild escalate, our hearts go out to everyone whose lives have been devastated by this tragedy, especially those who were forced to leave their much-loved animals behind.  They can never be replaced and nor can the wildlife, as we can only assume that way too many perished in this cataclysmic inferno.
