I may have thought that having a lazy day in bed was a good idea, but it didn’t last. Hibernating isn’t really my thing. It might have been cold outside but I have to get up because there’s always so much to do.
I had to warn Boris, again, about coming into the garden. I said it was very nice to see him but, Misha is a skillful and scary hunter, even if she is smaller than he is. All the rodents within a 20-mile radius are terrified of her. Ollie doesn’t present much of a threat to anybody though.
But Boris never listens, so I suppose it is must be true … what they say about a bird’s brain, Boris’s anyway, he has a very short memory.
It was cold today, but it is sunny. So I put on my racing jacket and headed for the beach. There’s no better way to warm up than having a good gallop on the beach.
0-60 in 5 seconds, that’s me. Nobody can keep up with me and I certainly gave those seagulls a run for their money!
Many of my friends think it’s odd that my best friend’s a cat because they believe that cats are for chasing and research does show that dogs have been chasing cats for centuries.
Although chasing anything that runs is very appealing, I am a pacifist … except when it comes to the postman and I just can’t help myself.
I was bought up with three cats, so I learnt to respect them pretty quickly, as well as finding out where my place was in the pecking order.
Tilly was the oldest and was always the boss and she really couldn’t stand me at first but she grew to love me as I did her. We all miss her every day.
Misha and I have a mutual respect for each other. She is from Bengal, very beautiful but very aloof and spends most of her time looking for something, but can never remember what it was. I hope she finds it one day.
Ollie and I have always been very close and I think of him as my brother. To me, that it is perfectly normal. When I was a baby, he was the only one that wanted to play with me. He still does.
Like many people, he can be very lazy and thinks he knows everything but he doesn’t. I told him it was going to rain the other day and it was best not to go out. He poo-pooed the idea and went out anyway, crashing back through the cat flap after the monsoon rain started, soaking wet and blaming everybody else for letting him go out.
Still, with all his faults, he is my bestie and always will be.
IAN NICKUS … SUNSHINE
It is my first birthday without Tilly, my Tortie mum, so I am a bit sad. On my birthdays she would always box my ears and say “You maybe another year older pip squeak, but I’m still the boss!” I really miss her, especially our duvet days and girlie chats, but she would never want me to be sad, especially on my birthday.
I usually sleep until my mum sticks her nose out from under the duvet but I thought, because it’s my birthday today, she wouldn’t mind too much if I jumped on her. So I did.
“I can’t believe my baby girl is 5!” She said giving me a cuddle. Then I looked at her and asked if I was going to be having a special birthday brekkie any time soon …
… which of course I did. Chicken. Yum. My favourite. Great start to the day.
